She has been in love with her childhood sweetheart, Yann. On the eve of their finally getting her father’s blessing to wed, the prince arrives and forces her to become his betrothed instead. Once in the castle, she makes a bargain with him. Help him find a cure before the end of the year, or she will have to marry and become a vampire herself. Will they be able to find the cure in time? And if so, will they still want to use it?

This is a standalone gothic romance. Clara is a character who will not be resigned to her fate. She is strong willed and smart, even though she was kept in the dark about what her father was doing. Raleigh is a romantic who has always been looking for love. Together they are the kind of couple that you can’t help but root for.. The world is very gothic. The castle of Rostenburg reminded me of the fairytale castles of my childhood. I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading more from Lily Crozier.
