Kerasea is the High Priestess but she also has her own secrets. This is her first conclave since she became the High Priestess and she is just trying to do what her father would have wanted. Only there is a senator is brutally killed. Torren has never liked the faith after his father was killed as a traitor. He especially doesn’t like Kerasea for her actions during that time. But he must look at all the clues in his investigation as the Praetorian of the Senate. Now the two will have to work together to find who has done this horrible crime.

This is the first book in the Verity Guild series. Kerasea is hiding whom she is but wants to just help the people of faith. She worries a great deal about her own responses to all those around her. Torren is so fulled by his vengeance that he may be blinded to the true clues left behind. These two are like fire together. The world is a fantastical version of Rome with the senators killing the last king and taking over ruling backed by the temple of truth. This story had me turning the page to see what would happen next, it is fast paced. I enjoyed reading this story and look forward to read the next book in this series.
