Harlow is the youngest daughter of the Carrenwell family. Though she is a widow, her parents want to form a new alliance with a powerful found family of a near by Fort thought to be lost. But all of the Carrenwell's can see what type of magic everyone has. Plus each of them has a different Divine blessings. Harlow has a poison kiss. She also has a secret, she kills husbands who hurt their families. The night before meeting her betrothed she goes on one last job only he doesn't die. And the next day meet Henry her mark and fiance. How is she going to do what her family wants when she can’t poison him?

This story is a dark fantasy romance filled with Divine blessed people. The Carrenwell's are a powerful family who want to keep power for themselves by any means. Harlow is very different from her parents and doesn't like watching the injustice of the women and children of their city. But she isn't the pampered princess Henry expects to find. The banter and chemistry between these two characters is brilliantly written. While their trauma for both of them is gut punching. The magic of the world is well defined. There is so much more going on throughout this story that you will not see the plot twists coming. I loved reading this book and look forward to reading more from Sheila Masterson.
