Ivy lost her best friend, Briar a year ago. She has been told that she died, but everything in her tells her that is not true. When she finally is admitted into Arcania Academy along with her paperwork, she also receives a letter from Briar. Now she is off to school to help her family and find her friend. Ezra literally runs into Ivy, rubbing her the wrong way. The two keep having encounters and are soon put on a team where they will have to work together. But there is a darkness that seems to be following her. Will she find Briar and be able to help her family?
This is the first book in a debut novel in the Arcania Academy. Ivy is a brilliant witch who is stubborn and loyal. She will protect those she loves fiercely. Ezra is broken and just trying to get free, but he hasn’t seen the actual cost yet. The banter between these two is like watching a tennis match at first, then becomes a transfer of wits that you want to read more. The world is one that is cloaked within our own. Magic is all around the even in the land, keeping with the feel of this story. It is dark and dangerous and perfectly done. I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading the next book in the series.
