Brigid has grown up in our mundane, non-magical world. But one night, everything changed. First she is told she has magic, then that she has to go to Grimstone Academy, so she can learn how not to be a danger to herself or others. With wanting answers and not being given a choice, she goes. Entering a world that she knows nothing about and there is more to everyone and thing around her. As well, a feeling of danger around every corner, Grimstone seems like there is a lot more than anyone is telling her.

This is the first book in the Dark Ascendant series. Brigid has always treated as a pariah, so she's very guarded, having deep-rooted trust issues. But she also is kind and wants to understand herself. While the guys Rory, Lochan, Tiernan, Callen and Marius are everything you could want in a book boyfriend. The world is full of magic, fae, witches, vampires, shapeshifters. The story has connections to Celtic Mythology. Once I started reading it, I felt like I was sucked in and couldn’t put it down. I loved this book and can't wait to read the next book, Shattered Veil.
