Alira has been cursed to die by the Blood Knight and then restart a week before it happens. Trying to get out of this time loop, she tries to change her fate. She offers herself as a bride to the demons for peace. Then she learns that she is to marry Duke Kalel, who is also the Blood Knight. Will she be able to finish what she started and change her fate?

This is the first book in the Cruel Fates Duet. Alira is tired and wants a change not just for herself but also her people. She is kind and strong. Kalel is fighting with his nature, but also holds secrets of his own. Neither fully trusts the other, but Alira wants this to work. The world is full of magic, but also has cracks because of the war. The story is fast-paced and keeps you turning the pages. I loved reading this book and can't wait to read the next book, Once Written in Gilded Blood.
