Ferris must join the champions to try to save her people. But she has something even more pushing her, saving her sister. Quickly learning that there is much more to this competition than she ever thought. But everything is not what it seems in this forest, especially the spirits themselves. Then the Fae, Hendrix, claims her, seeing she has worth in this. He has his own reasons to be here and will do anything to win, even use her. Now she has to figure out a way to win and stay alive with a growing connection to a heartless Fae.

This is the first book in the Crown of Hearts and Chaos series. Ferris has been a bookworm who secretly tried to train for this. But she has a will that could break most others. With her only weapon being a slingshot, she rises to move forward. Even as she fights with her reactions to the forest spirits and Hendrix. This world is filled with magic, amazing as well as dark and twisted. Hendrix is filled with anger over what he has gone through, but he finds something with Ferris. The two have a banter that will keep you turning the page. I loved reading this book and can’t wait to read the next book in this series, Lightwing.
