Astrid is the witch heir, and she must duel the heir to the dragon rider's Kingdom, Zryan. Astrid feels that she is going to her death in the duel. Raised on your duel or you die. But things are more complicated. She is a witch who can't cast. And then there is Skylar, who is traveling with a troupe, discovers that her friend is taken, Cam. Who will survive the duel? Will Skylar find Cam?

This is the first book in the Cursed Covenant series. Astrid may not be a strong caster, but she can make amazing potions. Zryan is an enigma, is he the enemie Astrid believes or is he a friend? Skylar is strong and street smart person with a personal grudge against the king. This world is full of magic but is sick with something they are calling the Blight. The change of perspective from Astrid to Skylar and back flows and makes for a brilliant full picture of the world. I loved reading this book and look forward to read the next book in this series.
